The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) will deliver a workshop dedicated to strengthening the capacity of African governments to negotiate transparent, equitable and sustainable contracts in extractive industries (IE) for broad-based sustainable growth and socio-economic development will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi from 31 May to 2 June 2016.

The capacity building program is currently being implemented in five pilot countries: Niger, Equatorial Guinea, Malawi, Congo (Brazzaville) and Chad between 2015 and 2017, and is funded by the ninth tranche of the United Nations’ Development Account.

The Lilongwe workshop will mark the launch of the project in Malawi. It will raise awareness, mobilize and train local stakeholders on strategic issues related to the negotiation, implementation and the monitoring of contracts. Building capacity and promoting the negotiation of fair and equitable mining agreements are central components of the Africa Mining Vision, the implementation of which is the mandate of the AMDC.
