International Jewellery London, also known as IJL, is the United Kingdom's biggest jewellery industry event, covering suppliers, brands, retail design experts and those with specialist skills at the bench. Here, The New Jeweller discovers some of the designers who will present their collections at this year's event from September 2-4. Craftsmanship, technique, quality and style: these are just some of the factors that separate good jewellery from beautiful and expertly-made designer jewellery. The global team at International Jewellery London (IJL) searches far-and-wide for designer jewellers that offer something different; whether that's a fresh perspective on trends, innovative use of materials or an aesthetic all their own.

Ahead of this year's show in September, IJL has announced a range of jewellery designers, emerging brands and more established design businesses that will showcase their collections romantic collections at IJL, having already achieved success in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Israel. Fine jewellery designer Vicki Smith will return to IJL for the second year to reveal updates to VIXI Jewellery - her fast-growing British brand that specialises in affordable luxury for self-purchasing women.

Other established designers continuing to utilise IJL as a buying platform are Cara Tonkin, John Garland-Taylor, Rachel Galley and Shelia Fleet. These talented designer-makers each have a unique signature style that resonates with customers in Great Britain and throughout Europe. Exceptional fine jewellery is at the heart of IJL, and this year's show will reveal a sparkling line-up of diamonds, gemstones and statement pieces. Contemporary fine jeweller Lauren Davidson of Ellie Air Jewellery will offer her take on the classic signet ring with fine gold designs, complete with the brand's signature star-shaped diamond and gemstone setting. Designer Fei Liu, who specialises in beautiful and vibrant bespoke pieces, will heritage and Western influences through fine and fashion collections, including the new Alyssum Collection in 18k white gold, diamonds and mother of pearl

Aside from exceptional design talents, IJL also welcomes a plethora of fine jewellery suppliers - many of whom specialise in unique pieces for a discerning clientele. Dubai-based fine jewellery brand Cara Jewellers will make its IJL debut with a range of diamond and gem-set engagement rings, jewellery suites and one-of-a-kind creations. This new visitor to London will be joined by long-time IJL exhibitors, including fine jewellery manufacturer Ntinga, family-run fine jewellery specialist, Sheldon Bloomfield, and Christopher Designs from New York. Tivon Fine Jewellery and PJ Watson, both leading fine jewellery manufacturers, will also compete for the attention of buyers. With such quality bespoke and one-of-a-kind creations on offer, IJL is the ideal location for retailers to find unique pieces their customers will love.

IJL can trace its history back more than 60 years, making it a consistent presence in the UK and international jewellery calendar. In 2017 the event welcomed 520 exhibitors from 43 countries. Among these exhibitors were fine jewellery suppliers, fashion and fine jewellery brands, retail service providers, watch brands, gem dealers, diamond manufacturers, packaging experts, retail experience insiders and silverware purveyors. This mix was wellreceived by 9,000 trade-verified visitors, including buyers and retailers from 71 countries. Of these visitors, more than 83% were in positions of buying responsibility for their organisation or business. Looking ahead to IJL 2018, visitors will discover an enhanced Retail Experience Area - a show sector including visual merchandising, in-store design and software solutions as well as a refreshed Inspire Seminar Programme, a dedicated 'Uniquely UK' showcase and a bridal jewellery area. Plus, IJL will present the emerging design stars selected for its flagship KickStart and Bright Young Gems initiatives. These annual schemes give young businesses and university graduates the chance to exhibit at IJL and meet the buyers, press and industry contacts that could help to launch their careers.

IJL also continues to expand its international reach with a group of first-time exhibitors from Thailand, including Purity Jewelry, Creation Bijoux, SWD Import-Export and Essel International to name a few. Plus, exhibitors have already been confirmed from Dubai, Peru, Poland, India, United States, Germany and Italy.

For jewellery professionals in the UK and further afield, IJL has earned a place in their annual trade show schedule thanks to its commitment to creating a positive experience, which also noting the positives, challenges and opportunities in our global trade.
