First Judges meeting concluded successfully

"The First Judges meeting for the coveted New Jeweller “Heritage Jewellery Design Competition & Awards” presented by JAWHARA Jewellery Group, powered by the Gemological Institute of America [GIA], supported by the ‘Dubai Design & Fashion Council’ and partnered by the Zayed University for education, concluded successfully in Dubai."

Eminent judges in the panel deliberated on the process and applauded the successful completion of the submission of designs by jewellery designers. Young and talented jewellery designers from countries such as UAE, Iran, Saudi Arabia, India, Oman, Africa and many other economies submitted exquisite designs inspired from the Heritage designs of UAE and the Arab world. An automated software application developed for the judging process was showcased during the meeting. An independent web portal developed for the competition and awards was also showcased and the evolution of the portal was also showcased. The web portal www.heritagejewellerydesign.com will become an important reference guide for all the jewellery designers in the future. This service for the jewellery designers is again a first from Dubai for the world. Going further the website will have a Library, Design gallery, Profile link, Designer speak and many other interesting articles and course details.

The eminent panelists in the judging committee included Mr Tamjid Abdullah, Dy. CEO - JAWHARA Jewellery Group, Ms.Aisha Rashid Al Mazrooei, Head – Precious Metals and Gemstone Testing Department - Dubai Central Laboratory, Ms.Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer – Dubai Fashion and Retail Establishment and the Vice - Chairperson of the Dubai Design and Fashion Council, Ms.Nirupa Bhat, Managing Director – GIA India and Middle East and Ms.Naida Akaeva, Asst. Professor at the Zayed University.

Discussions regarding creativity and wearability of the said designs post manufacturing ruled the meet as the eminent panelists decided on the reference percentages to be given to each design on the wearability, originality and creativity of each design.

The discussions and deliberations endorsed the professional approach to the coveted competition and the long term value that the said competition will have which is ultimately initiated to revive the “Heritage Jewellery designs of the UAE and the Arab world”. The judging process will conclude by the 10th of October post which the manufacturing process would be initiated by the jewellery leader – JAWHARA Group. The winning designs will be announced between the 12th to 15th October, giving enough time for the winners to plan their trip for the award function. The coveted awards would be organised with the support of the ‘VOD Dubai International Jewellery Show’ on the 18th of November in the show.
