The COVID-19 virus has created havoc globally affecting by and far most of the economies world wide driving them to impose travel and health restrictions. Indeed a challenging time for health and trade. The gem and jewellery sector too is reeling under the COVID-19 with leading conferences, exhibitions and fairs either postponed or cancelled. The Dubai Precious Metals conference slated to have been organised during the month of April has announced postponement followed by OROARREZO Italy and of course the HKTDC organised Hong Kong Gem & Jewellery Fair. This is indeed a wait and watch period and a time of anxiety as all efforts are made to counter the COVID-19 attack to save lives.

DMCC has welcomed TRIGEM’s Belgian certified Independent Diamond boiling facility in Dubai in partnership with Charlotte Quality Boiling Belgium. This facility will have a capacity to boil over 1.4 million carats of diamonds each month. Over 25 billion worth of rough and polished diamonds were traded in UAE in 2018 and this initiative indeed gives an excellent momentum to the growing Diamond Industry in Dubai and UAE. Trigem has also signed an agreement with Transguard, UAE’s leading security and logistic firm to provide secure transport services for its diamonds.

With trade volatility and economic and health uncertainties looming large it is in the best interest of every individual and trade that we see a new sunrise at the earliest bringing back the zeal in the global Gem and Jewellery sector
