IGI’s on-site laboratory returns to Jewellery Arabia 2015

Following its successful debut at Jewellery Arabia last year, International Gemological Institute’s (IGI) on-site laboratory is set to make its mark again at this year’s event. Visitors to Jewellery Arabia, the largest and most prestigious jewellery exhibition in the Middle East, will receive expert advice on the quality of their diamond jewellery at the on-site laboratory.

IGI, the world’s largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute for diamonds, coloured gemstones and jewellery, established the on-site laboratory to create awareness about the importance of jewellery certification among consumers and retailers. IGI will be exhibiting at booth number EH10, from 24th to 28th November,at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre in Manama.

“A certificate clearly describes the relevant characteristics of the diamond or gemstone, providing confidence for both buyer and seller. Awareness of the need for certification has dramatically increased in the region, and with initiatives like the on-site laboratory, we aim to give customers a first-hand experience of how we can assess the quality of their precious stone or jewellery. An industry event like Jewellery Arabia is the perfect platform to heighten awareness of certification and we are excited to participate in the show again,” said Nico D'Haemer, Managing Director, IGI Dubai.

“Following the remarkable response to the on-site laboratory at the 2014 edition, this year too, IGI’s lab will combine the Institute’s international grading expertise with accessible technology, making a major contribution to the evolution of certification in the Middle East,” he added.

In addition to verbal consultations on diamond jewellery, visitors to the IGI booth can gain more information on professional courses offered by IGI’s School of Gemology. One of the popular programmes in Bahrain is the IGI Professional Jewellery Designer CAD, which is accredited by Tamkeen, established as part of Bahrain’s national reform initiatives to provide a results oriented approach tailored to serve community and businesses.

IGI plans to conduct its next Jewellery Designing course in Bahrain in early 2016, in order to aid designers with creating fully customised designs for clients, or to express their creativity with a line of virtual jewellery. Designers can use computer-aided design (CAD) programmes and tools to create and better visualise the final product. CAD makes it much easier and quicker to create and work on a number of design alternatives. This reduces design costs and the time it takes to deliver a product to market or a specific client.

IGI also provides a manual Jewellery Design Graduate course which brings out each individual's innate creativity, helping enthusiasts to design with ability and confidence. It helps an apprentice designer learn the basics and complexities of designing any type of jewellery, as well as estimating the costs involved. The two-day workshop emphasizes practical work, and uses simple tools for effective design of handcrafted jewellery, so prospective artisans can express their creativity by creating a portfolio of their own designs.
