The New Jeweller UAE bureau in an exclusive interview with Zahir P. Majeed found that packaging is an ultimate tool to present a precious brand and plays an important role in building the image of any Brand. In this interview he also talks about the state of the art technology that is used in the Pacio & Zahirdamaso group. Excerpts:

What is the importance of packaging? Do you think it helps in increasing the Brand value of a Jewellery Brand? If yes, How?
As we know that in this current scenario everything changes so fast, be it Fashion, Lifestyle trends, or even culture. Thus it becomes equally important for every one of us to continuously improvise our presentation skills. Presentation and Packaging plays a big role in Branding your products and services. It is indeed a “Silent Salesman” that communicates the value of the product to its customers. Once a Brand is established, the price of the product too increases and it becomes important for the Brand to utilize world class packaging to optimally represent the High Value brand that the company has built. Hence most of the leading Jewellery brands have an in-house design team or depend on professional agencies like ours to get elegant and exquisite packaging.

Tell us something about the extensive technological knowhow that goes behind designing and producing packaging products? Briefly also tell us about the factories of Zahirdamaso and PACIO & the investments with respect to Machinery & manpower resource?
Pacio & Zahirdamaso houses the latest in Technology tools as we do believe that Technology has a big role to play when it comes to producing any product, be it Designing Software, to CNC router to Laser Machines. The designers create new designs based on specific theme and concept. 2D and 3D designs assure measuring accuracy and along with Auto CAD software is the primary step taken for processing any product. Miniature 3D Printer and Moulding are available today which gives an excellent perspective for Design and Effect.

In Visual Merchandising, I feel Pacio is the world leader that manufactures Display materials within a very short span of time. Latest use of technology and understanding of the Market Trends help Pacio reach a high level of excellence. We have mechanised all the possible sectors and have hired skilled resource to attain the highest of quality in all our produce. Quality control during various stages of production and adopting strict QC division have helped us penetrate new markets such as US, Europe, Middle East, Far East, India etc. In Zahirdamaso we mainly focus on Packaging division and concentrate on paper boxes and paper bags in a well equipped production set up. Hence we are able to satisfy all our current and potential customers in terms of offering an unbeatable price without compromising quality.

Recycling of waste is an important aspect in today’s life and a social responsibility for large corporate houses such as yours. What is your opinion on this and does your company use recycled material in its products? If yes, tell us about the company’s social responsibility towards the same.
Of course we do believe it is indeed our responsibility to protect Nature. In our society and this age the most ignored factor is our environment and its protection which cannot be felt unless we all have the mind set to do something about it. Thus awareness is the most important part when it comes to conservation of our own environment and world and at Zahirdamaso we promote paper boxes and paper packaging instead of plastic and synthetic leather materials.

PACIO and Zahirdamaso are global giants when it comes to packaging and display products for the jewellery industry. What has been your experience while expanding services globally and please tell us about your offices worldwide and the services offered to the industry therein?
We started our services in India first and expanded to the Middle East. We also then initiated our production from the UAE as we found it easy to export our products all across the globe from UAE. We are also able to maintain the International quality that is desired through stringent quality control measures and are matching or better than leading International brands that are existent in the market today. We have our offices in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to satisfy the customers’ tastes and preferences as they are quite different from the others across. Apart from KSA we have offices in USA, Hong Kong, China, India and Dubai. Our multinational operations help us in understanding the trends and forecasts across continents and we have a target to reach 10 new countries every year and to have a strong presence in at least 150 countries worldwide by Year 2031.

How important is ‘Design’ when it comes to offering packaging products to the clients? Do you have a design team servicing custom made products to your esteemed clients?
We have a professional In-House design team to cater to all our customers as every Brand has its own concept and story. The confidentiality and trust is of utmost importance as we do not share any of the creations among our clients and help our clients and customers to create unique designs that stand out on their own. All our offices and design team across our offices give a similar ambience to our customers and comfort to all our customers resulting in excellent color schemes, flow and design concepts when it comes to designing the arrangement of products in a showroom. The arrangement of products inside a showroom are utmost important as it avoids inconvenience to their respective customers. The fast moving and least moving items are mixed up judiciously to avoid any confusion.

Name some of your esteemed global clientele who have been using your packaged products? What has been their experience while dealing with your company and have you come across special requests that you have successfully adhered to?
Almost all the leading brands in the middle-east like DAMAS, Versace, Samra, Joyalukkas Jewellers, Malabar Gold and Diamond, Kalyan Jewellers, L`Azurde, Jawhara, Seapearl, Al Romaizan, 7Cs Group are some of our clients who hold major market share.

Have you serviced non-jewellery brands and companies from outside the jewellery sector? How different is it to service these kind of companies who are in the non jewellery segment?
We do work with watch, perfume and fashion industry. Also we are supplying for many international brands like Guy Laroche, Fontaney, Cacharel, Canali, Ferrari, Aigner etc.

What would be your advice to the Industry members in terms of utilizing quality packaging products?
As we discussed in the beginning the ultimate Branding for any product lies in its Packaging and Presentation. The quality of packaging is of utmost importance in today’s time as the attraction of the designing and quality of the material used really announces the Brand and people like to carry it in their hand. The Product inside might not be always visible, but the packaging inside which the product is kept is always seen and has a long shelf life. Not only the family members, but the guests too would familiarise with the brand. So my advice to all the Industry members is that don’t compromise on quality of packaging as it is equally important as your product and is in itself a part of your product.
