The inaugural Malaysia Gold Festival (MGF) 2026 officially opened today at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, bringing together approximately 70 local and international exhibitors across the gold and jewellery value chain for three days of trade, business networking, knowledge exchange, and consumer engagement.
Co-organised with the Province Wellesley Gold & Silver Ornament Merchants Association (PWGS), Malaysia Indian Goldsmith Jewellers Association (MIGJA) and Persatuan Pajak Gadai Islam Malaysia (PEGIM), with the support of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), MGF connects manufacturers, retailers, bullion dealers, refiners, technology providers, financial institutions and investors.
The festival was officially opened by Yang Berhormat Tuan Chiew Choon Man, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, together with Dato' Seri Louis Ng, President of the Malaysia Gold Association (MGA), alongside Mr. Fan Shao Kai, Head of Asia Pacific and Global Head of Central Banks of the World Gold Council (WGC).
MGF 2026 builds on MGA's 916 Malaysian Gold Cultural Day, introduced in 2020 to promote the “Buy Malaysian Gold” campaign in collaboration with KPDN. The festival takes this initiative further by creating a platform by industry, for industry, connecting Malaysian gold and jewellery businesses with regional and international markets.
According to Metals Focus, Malaysia's gold demand reached approximately 45 tonnes in 2025, comprising nearly 34 tonnes for jewellery manufacturing and more than 10 tonnes for physical investment.
These figures reflect Malaysia's established gold ecosystem, spanning mining, refining, manufacturing, trading, retail and investment, supported by financial and Islamic finance institutions. With its strategic location, trade links and manufacturing capabilities, Malaysia is well positioned to connect ASEAN with the Middle East, India, East Asia and wider global markets.
The key highlight of MGF 2026 was the launch of the Malaysia Gold Standard (MGS), the first flagship standard under the Malaysia Gold Industry Principles (MGIP). Publicly released on 18 September 2026, MGIP is a voluntary, industry-led national framework promoting responsible, transparent and ethical practices across Malaysia's gold value chain. Developed over 12 months
with contributions from more than 100 representatives from Government, regulators, industry, standards institutions and independent experts, the framework was formed with the support of the World Gold Council and SIRIM Academy.
MGS establishes stronger expectations for responsible sourcing, assaying, quality control, traceability, product marking and documentation, while MGIP covers eight scopes such as refining, wholesale and bullion trading, manufacturing, assaying, retail, gold-linked financial and investment products, pawnbroking, and Shariah gold.
The Shariah Gold workstream further supports clearer practices for Shariah-compliant gold trading, investment and gold-backed solutions, strengthening the link between the bullion and Islamic finance ecosystems.
Apart from that, MGF 2026 also marks a new phase of regional cooperation, with MGA signing industry cooperation memoranda with counterparts from the United Arab Emirates, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Uzbekistan to promote knowledge exchange, responsible bullion practices and greater market connectivity. The Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA) is expected to join the initiative in month end, further strengthening Malaysia-Indonesia gold market cooperation.
During the event, a Regional Gold Standards and Market Connectivity Roundtable was held concurrently with the exhibition to bring together representatives from participating markets, KPDN, MATRADE, Department of Standards Malaysia (JSM), Indonesia's Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), the World Gold Council (WGC), Metals Focus and other experts to discuss regional policies, Good Delivery initiatives, responsible practices and market connectivity
Above all, MGF 2026 was established to provide Malaysian jewellers and manufacturers with opportunities to showcase their craftsmanship to international buyers, while consumers can access exclusive collections, product launches, promotions, live demonstrations, and interactive activities. Not to be missed, there are also Lucky Draw sessions where visitors can stand a chance to win gold prizes worth a total of RM50,000 throughout the 3-day event.
The inaugural festival is expected to generate up to RM100 million in B2B and B2C transactions and attract 10,000 to 15,000 local and international visitors, benefiting Kuala Lumpur’s hospitality, retail, food and beverage, transportation and tourism sectors.
The Malaysia Gold Festival 2026 runs from 18th to 20th September 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Admission is open to trade visitors and members of the public. For event information and programme schedules, Kindly visit www.mga.my/mgf2026 or email goldfestival@mga.my.
