IGI Reaffirms Commitment to 4Cs Grading for all Diamonds
Institute Defining Global Standards in Gem Certification
The International Gemological Institute (IGI), the leading grader of lab-grown diamonds globally, has confirmed it will continue applying the universal 4Cs grading to all diamonds, whether natural or lab-grown. This affirmation comes as many in the industry grapple with the unprecedented shift by others to a different, diluted scale for lab grown diamonds sent to their locations. IGI pioneered lab grown diamond grading in 2005. Recognizing their identical properties to natural diamonds, IGI applied the existing 4Cs to prevent industry and consumer confusion, mirroring the approach taken in the cultured pearl market. The statement released by the institute reads: “Since inception, IGI has remained steadfast in its mission as an independent, third-party authentication body - unbiased, and free from external influence. Our commitment to transparency, integrity, and scientific accuracy has earned us the trust of consumers, manufacturers, and retailers around the world. Every diamond we certify undergoes a rigorous 14-step grading process, carried out by expert gemologists using state-of-the-art equipment - upholding accuracy, impartiality, and trust at every step. ![]() ![]() A Global Leader with Recognized Credentials With 31 laboratories across 10 countries, IGI operates the world’s largest gem lab network. At IGI, we uphold these standards not merely out of tradition, but from a deep-rooted belief in the consumer’s right to transparency, knowledge, and confidence. |
