Tether Gold Receives ADGM Recognition, Boosting Regulated Digital Gold Trading

Tether has achieved a significant regulatory milestone after its gold-backed digital asset, Tether Gold (XAUT), was recognized as an Accepted Spot Commodity by the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). The recognition enables licensed entities operating within ADGM to offer products and services linked to XAUT under the financial centre's established regulatory framework.

The approval marks another step in the UAE's efforts to strengthen its position as a global hub for digital assets and tokenized investments. It also reflects the growing institutional interest in blockchain-based products backed by tangible assets such as physical gold.

Each XAUT token represents ownership of one fine troy ounce of physical gold, with the underlying bullion securely stored in vaults, primarily in Switzerland. The tokenized asset provides investors with the benefits of digital ownership while maintaining exposure to allocated London Good Delivery gold bars.

With a market capitalization of nearly US$2.5 billion, Tether Gold is available on both the Ethereum (ERC-20) and Tron (TRC-20) blockchain networks, allowing users to buy, transfer and trade gold digitally through blockchain technology.

According to Tether, the recognition follows extensive engagement with ADGM to demonstrate the platform's compliance, transparency and operational standards. The company noted that the approval builds on ADGM's earlier recognition of USDT, further reinforcing its presence in the UAE's rapidly evolving digital asset ecosystem.

The development also highlights the increasing acceptance of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) within regulated financial markets, particularly among institutional participants seeking efficient and transparent investment solutions.

Tether said it will continue collaborating with regulators and industry stakeholders across the Middle East to support the growth of regulated digital asset markets and expand access to blockchain-enabled financial products backed by physical assets.
